solaris 2.5

:Could somebody tell me when Solaris 2.5 was released?

Back in Nov. 1995.

:and why there are so few patches? (is that a good sign?)

Yes, it's a 'good sign' - the number one priority for Solaris 2.5 was
QUALITY. Everything else, is secondary to that. The bugs/patches that
were in Solaris 2.4, those buggy code were re-written and re-engineered.
Being part of the SQA (Software QA) process, these code have gone
through the same process as the whole OS (SQA regression testing, and
testing with certain third party products) to ensure the highest
quality release of Solaris 2 I've ever seen.

Not to say that Solaris 2.5 is totally bug free, but it has the least
no of bugs at FCS compared to previous releases.

:and where are those web sites with info specific to 2.5?

Check out Sun's home page and go into Products&Technology.

-->Solaris Products Information
  --> Solaris Products - What's Hot.

       You'll see pages like 'Solaris 2.5 out of the gate!'; Solaris
       2.5 provides compelling reasons for developers to upgrade; Why
       upgrade to Solaris 2.5.

I've got a white paper (Solaris 2.5-A First Look) which is in postscript.

Drop me a mail, and I'll forward it to you.

:- Thanks

Sol 2.5 was released 11/27/95.
I haven't seen any patches yet, also.

There are already a few patches like vipw fix and cp fix. I think the cp -p
bugfix is the most important patch at the moment (Patch ID 103162-01).

Take care,

Yeah, yeah, to the newsgroup, 2.5 patches do exist now. (They just didn't when
I posted my previous comment, to my knowledge, but alas we can now start the
patching process :-))

Regards to all & sorry to confuse,

you read it on.  Thanks.

The Executive Tools web site URL also has some
excellent links to other Solaris and Sun information pages.

 Executive Tools is not associated with this posting, so, if you have any

 replies, good or bad!
