Use "fuser -c" to check for processes that may reside within the mount point rather than executing code from within. Also, fuser doesn't pick up any processes sat on top of automounted areas, so try umounting/fuser-ing automount areas (server only) first.

e.g.    # fuser -c -k /home/optional
        # fuser -k /home/optional
        # umount /home/optional
        # umount /optional

fuser has no problems with automounted file systems.

I have on a few occasions been unable to umount unused file systems.
This might be bug 1215466 or 4055066, which has status fixed/closed,
but lists no patch number.

In this situation, sometimes temporarily killing lockd and
statd whilst doing the umount solves the problem.
Of course, it also screws up any file locks...

I called Sun and they gave blabla. I finally said that either give me
a solution or file a bug report. I was called back that a bug with ID
4060954 has been filed with 20+ companies on it, I asked to add my name
or company name on it and the call was closed. I could not find the
bug ID on SUNSOLVE so it could be that is a private bug ID.

1. does find has to do with umount? can not umount yet fuser find nothing

Q1:
We have a machine called pizza. fuser can not find any processes
but /net/pizza/cdrom/oracle734 is busy, why?

Q2:
Does find has anything to do with umount? After running find, it
does not say busy anymore, and appears to be umounted, but it actually
is not.

# umount /net/pizza/cdrom/oracle734
umount: /net/pizza/cdrom/oracle734 busy

# find /net/pizza/cdrom/oracle734
/net/pizza/cdrom/oracle734

# umount /net/pizza/cdrom/oracle734

# ls /net/pizza/cdrom/
oracle734/  oracle805/
