rlogin gives rcmd: socket: Permission denied

rlogin gives rcmd: socket: Permission denied

Post by Michael Frands » Wed, 17 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Subject says it all.  I can't rlogin from Solaris.

Also, when I rlogin to Solaris, my .rhosts file is ignored.

Ideas?  Thanks,
Mike

How do you have /.rhosts setup?  Just the host name, or the fully
qualified name?  I'd try both, eg

myhost
myhost.domain.com

Also try putting a ~/.rhosts file (for users other than root).  See
if a regular user can rlogin.

If you are rlogin'g in as root, do you have root restricted to the
console?  (check /etc/default/login).  If it's restricted, you won't
be able to telnet in as root, much less rlogin.

1. HELP: Problem with rlogin: rcmd: socket: Permission denied

Hi,
I am working with slackware 2.1 and having this problem for all
the users except root.  When the user tried to rlogin to some
machine, this is what the system tells him:
   rcmd: socket: Permission denied.

Everything is working for the root user though.

BTW: When I started xdm as root, regular users are able to login
but 'xterm' doesn't work.  This is what it said when user tried to
'xterm':
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0

Other utilites such as xclock, xcalc are working fine.

Please send your help to my email address:

Thanks in advance.
