Hi

I would like to change the background of my workstation with a different
image file. The built in image files are rather boring.

try xloadimage

Yeah, xv3 is great for this. You could even, when using xterminals, use it
to load the
background with a nice mpg image as a background for the login screen. You
could take
your own picture to be there when users log in. Great eh!?
You could also change the openwindows picture that appears when starting
ow:
/usr/openwin/server/etc/Solaris.im8.Z
