Major and minor device numbers for SCSI tape drive?

Major and minor device numbers for SCSI tape drive?

Post by Genetic Softwa » Sun, 27 Aug 1995 04:00:00

For some reason the solaris 2.4 installation did not put in device nodes
for my Exabyte 8200 8mm tape drive.  I'm trying to find what major
and minor device number I should use but haven't had any luck.
I thought that solaris would automatically detect my 8mm drive on scsi
id 4 just like sunos but apparently it does not.

Can someone give me a clue?  Or better yet, tell me where I can find
this information.

Please reply via email.
Thanks.

Solaris only checks SCSI devices if you do a boot -r from the ok> prompt
It figures that the chances are the scsi devices are the same as last
time it booted so it keeps a record of them
makes booting a darn sight faster.

So, halt the machine (shutdown -i0 -g0 -y) then at the ok> prompt
type:
boot -r

Do a 'boot -r' to reconfigure all devices.

Or do `drvconfig ; tapes' to save a reboot.

Cheers,
