Meta key in OpenWindows olwm,Xview, & OpenLook

Post by Michael Doy » Wed, 04 Sep 2002 23:37:50

To all,

I have a SPARC 20 box running Sol 2.8.  I prefer running OpenWindows
as a balance between memory used (CDE/Gnome/KDE use so much) and
functionality (I like have ToolTalk-enabled apps like TextEdit).
However, the meta key doesn't work. For instance, Meta-Q won't quit an
app (this is olwm) and Meta-C won't copy a selection in TextEdit (an
xview app.).  Anyone know what enables the functioning of the Meta key
in this environment?
I've tried setting the Basic and Full settings of the
OpenWindows.KeyboardCommands resource, but this didn't seem to help...
Any suggestions are welcome.

Michael

I have seen Solaris8 Openwin only with a _working_ Meta key.
Maybe you (or some application) have disabled it by means of xmodmap?
xmodmap
should yield:
shift       Shift_L (0x6a),  Shift_R (0x75)
lock        Caps_Lock (0x7e)
control     Control_L (0x53)
mod1        Alt_L (0x1a)
mod2        Mode_switch (0x14)
mod3        Num_Lock (0x69)
mod4        Meta_L (0x7f),  Meta_R (0x81)
mod5        F13 (0x20),  F18 (0x50),  F20 (0x68)

See
man xmodmap

1. OpenWindows 3.2, Motif 1.2 & olwm

In OpenWindows 3.2, Solaris 2.2, Motif 1.2 and olwm, we are running into
a problem that a DialogShell which is a child of a DialogShell will not
stay on the top of its DialogShell parent. We have set the olwm's resource
KeepTransientsAbove to True but this seems to be working only for
DialogShell whose parent is the toplevel  ApplicationShell. Any suggestions,
  workarounds will be greatly appreciated.
  Thanking You,
