2.5 probs: console, single mode, TT_DB(???)

Post by Jozsef Kadlecs » Fri, 10 May 1996 04:00:00

Hello,

We are after a Solaris 2.4 -> 2.5 upgrade on a SC2000. It was less painfully
as we had expected, but we have some problems:

-  The console went crazy: it displays the console messages correctly but
nobody can login because of the garbled characters.
Killing the console ttymon doesn't help at all.

Is there any way to get back the console without rebooting the machine?

I just note, we have never had such a problem with 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4!!!

-  In single user mode openwin doesn't start up. The Solaris logo appears
and that's all. No error message in the files, nothing, just the logo
   on the screen.

Has anybody any clue why openwin doesn't start up?

-  After the upgrade a new directory /TT_DB appeared. What it is for??

Thank you any idea, suggestion.

Regards,
Jozsef Kadlecsik

1. serial console in single mode does not function

When system with serial console is started in single mode it boots
shell. But any button pressed in terminal does not go to console.
Looks like hanged system. Nothing changed but kernel (2.4.14) only
and serial console works as expected: any pressed chars are displayed
in console.
Kernels 2.4.17 and 2.4.18 was checked and do not function.
Systems are Alpha Avanti and Alpha Miata (some info provided below).
