How can I tell if Asynchronous I/O is implemented on a Solaris 2.5 box?

I'm not sure in what context you mean, but the following

set scsi_options=0x3d8

if put in /etc/system, will set asynchronous mode on the scsi buses, and may
incur a performance penalty in doing so.

(to switch synchronous mode back on, make the value 0x3f8)

If you mean asynchronous file IO, check aioread aiowrite.
