The information in the answer book indicates that, after setting up
a client, you make it a replica with

        nismkdir -s client nis.domain.name.

(this to be done on the primary server).

I seem to get better results after also doing:

        nismkdir -s client org_dir.nis.domain.name
        nismkdir -s client groups_dir.nis.domain.name

After doing this, however, you have to use

        nisping -C org_dir

to promptly update the tables stored under org_dir .

I don't know if my procedure is officially supported, but it seems to
give better results.

I tried this, because otherwise 'niscat -o nis.domain.name' showed
that the replica server was indeed a replica for the domain, but
'niscat -o org_dir' did not list it as a replica server for the
org_dir directory.

Hey, right on!  Wow, kudos to you for figuring that out; I had to call
Sun Tech support.  Look to see the three nismkdir's as official
procedures in future AnswerBooks.  You have to do 3 nismkdirs and 3
nispings (the additional ones on org_dir and groups_dir) in order to
properly set up a replica.
Sincerely,
-Mike

First make replica a client, then run rpc.nisd on the future replica.
Then use the nisserver script comes with NIS+ on master. This script
will do all the nismkdir stuff and setup the replica. Then nisping -C.
Sit and pray the servers to transfer maps in a couple of minutes. :-)
