I am at a loss as to why you can't print to/from a Solaris 2.X system.
They support BSD protocol. The SVR4 and Solaris LP print systems
each support two network protocols the first is the SYSV LP
on-the-wire protocol and the other is the BSD protocol (RFC-1179). In
Solaris 2.6, the only network protocol supported by the print system
will be the BSD protocol.
