serial line / x86

I am trying to make the serial port 1 work on Solaris x86, in order to
make mail/news transferts...

I think it will be very long, as it is very difficult to make
the serial port to work, and I do'nt speak about mail and news
configuration!

My questions are the following:

1) I use "cu" on the calling machine to make a login try... I get
the "login" and the "password" prompts, but the login is always
   incorrect... Has someone an idea?
PS. I must use ^J instead of <return>.

2) Does someone knows how uucp works if I want only connexions
from one machine to the other? Is the second one able to send
its mail even if it does not initiate the connexion?

3) Is it the same for news?

4) Has someone a typical serial port/uucp/mail configuration to send
me? I think I would save a lot of time...

Thank you very much.

1. Serial line vs. dialup line

I  found the  following lines  in my  /etc/inittab file.  What  is the
difference  between a  serial line and  a  dialup line? I thought they
were the same.

#
# Serial lines
#s1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 19200 ttyS0 vt100
#s2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 19200 ttyS1 vt100

# Dialup lines
#d1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -mt60 38400,19200,9600,2400,1200 ttyS0 vt100
#d2:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -mt60 38400,19200,9600,2400,1200 ttyS1 vt100
