ftp client to send data using a certain network interface

Post by Tambaa Hap » Sat, 20 Aug 2005 07:58:56

Anyone know of an ftp client or a way to write one in Perl that will send
data to another host using a specific network interface. I would like to
test the throughput of our backup network and hence would like to force the
client to use a specific network interface card.

This is on Solaris.

Thanks in advance,
TH

Are the two interfaces on the same sub-network?  This is usually most
easily done by having the routing table correct on the host, then using
the desired interface on the remote machine as the host target.

How does the backup software select the correct interface?

Using Net::FTP, you can specify the interface in the call to the 'new'
contructor with the option 'LocalAddr' that will be passed on to
IO::Socket::INET. See the pod documentation for both modules.

1. Sending binary data using send(2)

Hello,

I'm writing a http server and have been pretty successfull in sending
documents to clients but when it comes to sending binary data the server
just sends a couple of bytes and then nothing.
I think, and am pretty sure of it, this has to with unprintable characters
in binary files and that send() sends till it finds an unprintable char. I
would like to know how it's possible to send binary data without send()
throwing up.

Maxor salutes you!
