Sorry for a question of this level, but I do not profess to be a
programmer.
Here's the problem:
On a Sun Solaris 2.5 system with both Sun's CC & GNU CC 2.7.2.1 I'm
tring to compile the TIFF libraries (v3.4b036). Using GCC as the
compiler I run the configure utility and run make. The library compiles
fine but the following error appears when the tools are compiled using
the new library:
= tools
/usr/local/bin/gcc -c -I../libtiff -I../libtiff -g -O -I. -I../tools
-I../libtiff ../tools/fax2tiff.c
/usr/local/bin/gcc -o fax2tiff -g -O -I. -I../tools -I../libtiff
fax2tiff.o -L../libtiff -R/usr/local/lib -ltiff -L../../jpeg -ljpeg
-lm
ld: warning: file ../libtiff/libtiff.so: section .stabstr: malformed
string table, initial or final byte
The error implies to me that some is wrong in the library, but without
any reported errors in the creating of the objects or the linking of the
library I have no idea where that error may be.
If I use Sun's CC program I get the following messages during the
library object creation:
/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc -c -K PIC -g -O -I. -I../libtiff -I../../jpeg
-I../../zlib -DJPEG_SUPPORT ../libtiff/tif_getimage.c
"../libtiff/tif_getimage.c", line 805: warning: integer overflow
detected: op "<<"
I do not know all of the ins and outs of using the various compilers and
switches yet so I must admit I am baffled by these errors. If some kind
soul could help me with this (With only a little derision & insult :-)
I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
