nispasswd -f if you're running NIS+, nicely ask root to edit /etc/passwd
if not.

I have a chfn/chsh program that I modified to work on Solaris 2.x
if you do not run NIS/NIS+.  I make now claims as to how secure it
is.  It is based on code from Comp.Sources.Unix.  I've had it in
a student environment now for over two years without problems.

Ask your sysadmin to edit /etc/passwd.

1. Slackware 2.2.0 and chfn, bug?

Well, there are many little problems, mostly harmless.

Yes. There is a bug in the source code, that instead of the "#ifndef DEDUG"
should be "#if ! DEBUG".
The corrected versions can be found at
    ftp.netcom.com:/pub/ze/zenon/linux/tmp

Read there also the SimpleFixes2.2.0 for other problems and remedies.
