How to designate full backup to specific tape using Solstice Backup?

Post by Hilary Zhan » Tue, 22 May 2001 22:52:01

I met a problem with Solstice Backup like this: we need to bring out the
tapes containing full backup weekly. all the full backup can be stored in
one dlt7000 tape. we need to keep the data for at least one month. Can
anyone give me any suggestion on how to do this?

I find that a "group" can be designate to specific  "Pool". but when to do
full backup is defined in schedule, this is related to client. How to
designate only the full backup to "Full pool"? we need to send them to
different buiding for safety.

Create a separate group for full backups. Set the schedule so that it does a
full backup once a week, and skips doing a backup every other day of the week.

Create a second group for incremental backups. Set the schedule so it skips
the day the full backups are made, and does incremental backups the rest of
the week.

Use two pools. One Full pool and one Incremental pool.

Hilary -

What I do is this.  I have two pools, xes and xes_offsite.  I also
have two groups, xes_full and xes_incr.  I then schedule group
xes_full to do "full" on Sunday, skip every other day.  I schedule
group xes_incr to do an "incremental" Mon-Sat and skip Sunday.
I also select the cloning option in the xes_full group and the
clones are written to the xes_offsite tape pool.  If you wanted
(though I don't), each Monday you could mark yesterday's (Sunday's)
xes_offsite tape as full, take it out, and send it offsite.
That would give you fulls both on-site and off-site.
