2nd Quad ethernet card not working

2nd Quad ethernet card not working

Post by Dav » Thu, 18 Jan 2001 15:16:49

We have a firewall with a quad ethernet card, which is working fine.  I
have recently added a new Quad card, but cannot configure it with ifconfig.

An ifconfig -a returns

lo0: flags=849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 8232
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
hme0: flags=843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 169.181.224.44 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 169.181.224.0
qfe3: flags=843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 100.100.104.100 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 100.100.104.0
qfe0: flags=843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 100.100.101.100 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 100.100.101.0
qfe2: flags=843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 100.100.103.100 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 100.100.103.0
qfe1: flags=843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
        inet 100.100.102.100 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 100.100.102.0

dmesg shows that the second card and its interfaces have been detected, but
I can't configure (or even look at them) with

ifconfig qfe4 etc

I have looked at the doco, and have a call with Sun to no avail.  Any help
would be terrific.

Did you try plumbing the interface ??

Check "man ifconfig plumb/unplumb".

/Pascal.

Do prtconf -p and see if the device tree has the 2nd qfe device.

Or do soemthing like the following at the OBP prompt :-

ok cd sbus
ok pwd

ok ls

ok cd qec
ok pwd

ok ls

1. Configuring 2nd Ethernet card to work

I am currently using...
Slackware version 8.0
kernel version 2.4.20

I have one ethernet card, using a Realtek RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ chip
that is configured as eth0 and is working fine.

I have another ethernet card installed using a Accton Tech EN-1216
chip
that i would like to configure so that I can use linux as my
router/firewall/etc.

After searching the web and other various sources, i have found that
the Accton EN-1216 uses the tulip.o driver.

I needed some help with configuring the second network card.  I am
fairly confused on how to go about setting it up, so any help would be
appreciated.  Thank you in advance.
