running headless

Hi. I need to run a headless system. I know that if I disconnect the
keyboard that /dev/console will be redirected to serial port A.
However, I need my serial ports to be doing, well, serial kind of
things. How can I force /dev/console to just log to a file instead?

Thanks,
Beth

No - at least not the way you mean (how would you type commands?).

You may have to get some additional, SBus (PCI) based serial ports.

NT tries to do almost everything UNIX does, but fails - miserably.

The use of Windoze cripples the mind; its use should, therefore, be
regarded as a criminal offence.  (With apologies to Edsger W. Dijkstra)

If it ain't analogue, it ain't music.

No, I'm afraid not.  As someone else suggested, add an
expansion board with more serial ports and move your
"serial kinds of things" to one of those ports.

Sun only sells 8-port expansion boards, which is probably
overkill for your needs.  I've heard that another manufacturer
makes 4-port and perhaps even 2-port boards, but I don't remember
the name.  Aurora?

Thanks for the replies (even though they were not what I wanted to hear
:-) )

1. Coverting a 2.6 machine to run headless

I've built a new 2.6 box with a standard kbd/mouse/monitor console,
but the intention is to install it headless with only network and
serial port (via terminal server) access. Can someone tell me what
config changes are necessary to stop all the graphical boot process
occuring?

On the same subject, I would have actually done the install from the
serial port, but I couldn't get a coherent screen from an MS windows
terminal box no matter how much I messed with the settings. If anyone
has had any luck doing this I'd greatly appreciate hearing about it.
