values-Xa.o not exist in solaris2.6 ?

Post by Dinh-Tuan Pha » Fri, 17 Apr 1998 04:00:00

        Hi all,
I have upgraded my system to solaris-2.6. Now my gcc compiler
complains that

ld: fatal: file values-Xa.o: open failed: No such file or directory

(I have upgraded gcc to the sol2.6 version but still got the same error
message). Is values-Xa.o not exist in solaris-2.6 or I have forgot to
intall an package (which ?). I have the directory /usr/ccs which
contains the support files for the C compiler though (but not the
values-Xa.o file)

        Thank for any info.

/usr/ccs/lib/values-Xa.o is in package SUNWarc
system      SUNWarc        Archive Libraries

The solaris FAQ says:

6.2) Which packages do I need to install to support a C compiler?

Solaris ships with everything you need, with the exception of the
compiler itself.  Solaris ships with the include files, make, an
assembler, linker and libraries.  All this stuff lives in
/usr/ccs/bin (add it to your PATH before /usr/ucb if that's in your
PATH as well) /usr/ccs/lib and /usr/include.

If you still can't find it, make sure you have the following
    packages installed on your system:

for tools (sccs, lex, yacc, make, nm, truss, ld, as):
            SUNWbtool, SUNWsprot, SUNWtoo
        for libraries & headers:
            SUNWhea, SUNWarc, SUNWlibm, SUNWlibms
            SUNWdfbh, SUNWcg6h, SUNWxwinc, SUNWolinc,
            SUNWxglh
        for ucb compat:
            SUNWsra, SUNWsrh

These packages are all on the Solaris 2.x CDs, except that some
packages may only exist in some releases and not in others.
Some packages may be on separate CDs, such as the "Desktop/CDE"
CD, but all are part of the Solaris "bundle".

1. ld complained values-Xa.o not found

Our Solaris 2.5 box used to work OK with compile.
Not anymore when the sysadmin decided to wipe out everything and re-install
from the CD's.

After the system was up, there was no compiler, linker, and whatever.
I downloaded precompiled packages from GNU Freeware site and install
the packages for gcc2.7.2.1, libg++2.7.2, and binutils.

Then I got a little problem when compiling a small C file. Maybe someone
can help me out. The error I got was as below:

gcc -o mypgm mypgm.c  (a small program which I did not call any values-Xa)
ld: cannot open values-Xa.o: No such file or directory

I have set my PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variables to include the
bin's and lib's paths of the three packages listed above. Still got the
error listed above.

Anyone know what I was missing?

Thanks in advance
