kinit: Time is out of bounds error

kinit: Time is out of bounds error

Post by Sylvain Mart » Sat, 20 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I have a network composed of Sun Sparcs running solaris 2.4 and some P5s
running BSDI 2.0 and 2.1. When I try a kinit -i from some certain sparcs,
I get a "kinit: Time is out of bounds (krb_rd_req)" error while on some it
works fine and on one perticular Sparc 5, it works some times, others it
doesn't. Does anyone have a clue as to what would cause this?

the kerberos server is a P5 running bsdi 2.1 and Kerberos IV

Make your clients run netdate against the kerberos server.  This is arguably
not as Entirely Safe as running xntpd, but xntpd is also unnecessary in
most cases.

Kerberos is a time sensitive thing...it barfs, say, if you haven't switched
your computer over to the current time thing (Daylight Savings, is it?).

1. RPC time outs at boot time

Recently I've just started having a problem at boot time, when my system is
starting up, I get a bunch of messages:
NFS Portmap: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out.

I'm currently at a loss as to what to do to fix this.
The machine that is booting is set up to mount a few filesystems over NFS,
but it has booted up fine before.  Perhaps I have a problem with my
tcpwrappers setup? (denying ALL:ALL)

Thanks in advance for any advice, help, etc...
