x86 Solaris 7 Network Adapter Installation

Post by bunny.. » Tue, 14 Dec 1999 04:00:00

i am configuraing a x86 Solaris 7, but the network adaptor cannot
recognised by the Configuration Assitance at boottime.  I checked the
sun site and it told me the card is supported but require additional
configuration.  my network adapter card is "3Com Ehterlink XL 3C905C".
But I browse both the sun site and 3Com site there are no way to get
the Unix driver for the card and also the installation stpes.  Do you
know what is meaned by the Additional Configuration?  Since i went to
the Additional Configuration page, the steps for me seems not
useful.... it always asked me to go boot the machine using the
Configuration Assist disk.... Pls can you give me any instruction on it?

Thank You

Best I could find is this:

3Com EtherLink XL (3C900, 3C900-COMBO, 3C900B-COMBO, 3C900B-TPC,
3C900B-TPO), Fast EtherLink XL (3C905-TX, 3C905-T4, 3C905B-TX, 3C905B-T4)
Solaris Device Driver:
 elxl

Device Type:
 Network (Ethernet)

Adapters:
 3Com EtherLink XL (3C900, 3C900-COMBO, 3C900B-COMBO, 3C900B-TPC,
3C900B-TPO), Fast EtherLink XL (3C905-TX, 3C905-T4, 3C905B-TX, 3C905B-T4)

Bus Type:
 PCI

Preconfiguration Information
Supported Settings
 Media Type:
 Auto Select

Known Problems and Limitations
3C905B cards in a Compaq ProLiant 6500 can fail to generate interrupts.
There is no known workaround for this problem. However, since some slots
appear to be more prone to the problem than others, moving the card to
another PCI slot might help. Also, successive reboots of the machine have
succeeded in getting the card out of the wedged state.
