ppp-2.3b1 vs dp-4.0 for solaris 2.5

Post by Jay Claybaugh (j » Fri, 06 Sep 1996 04:00:00

I would like to know if anyone has experience with
ppp-2.3b1 and dp-4.0 and could offer an opinion on
which package they prefer to use under solaris 2.5

I'm particularly interested in the these areas:
1 -- does the package crash
2 -- is it fast (for a serial line connection, anyway)
3 -- is it easy to add and delete users
4 -- do user names and passwords have to be placed in
a file in an un-encrypted format.

Any comments would be welcome.

1. Does dp-4.0 work OK with Solaris 2.5?

The subject line says it all.

I'm getting ready to upgrade from Solaris 2.4 to 2.5, but I've grown
dependent on one rather important additional feature of the publically
available `dp' package (relative to the Solaris implementation of PPP),
namely the ability to execute arbitrary scripts each time the PPP
link comes up.

(I use this to kick off programs that send and receive new mail and
also tasks that send and receive new USENET news.)

So anyway, before I go off and do anything foolish, I'd sure like to
hear first that at least one other person is successfully using the
combination of dp-4.0 and Solaris 2.5.

If you are doing that, please write to me.
