Solaris 2.3->2.4 broken RPC?

Solaris 2.3->2.4 broken RPC?

Post by Michael Web » Wed, 05 Apr 1995 04:00:00

Hi,

After upgrading from 2.3 to 2.4, I'm now having problems with the
automounter and NFS. It does mount the /home/$USERID directory fine, but
when you try to shut the machine down, it won't unmount (umount) the
directories.  It gives the following error message:

showmount: domain.name.com : RPC: program not registered

It gives the same message when trying to unmount the cdrom under vold.

Could this also be a problem with NIS+?

I'm running on a Sparc 20 (patched 101945-23).

Has anyone seen this problem and/or know of a solution?

Thanks in advance,

Don't know if this is related:

Since upgrading to Sol2.4 and adding rec. patches the following
message occurs when system comes down (init 0):

nfs umount:n01:vold(pid 228) Server not responding:RPC:program not
registered.

Before bringing system down vold is alive and well with pid 228. Also,
problem was not present after upgrade before patching.

(env: Sol2.4, standalone SS10/51, only DNS - no NIS+)

I'm pretty sure that it is related....I'm also getting that message when
the system comes down.  So, the problem may be related to one of the
rec. patches?

Thanks for the response, I think I may go back to 2.3 and then retry the
upgrade.  Unfortunately, I didn't save the original files when I added the
rec. patches, so I can't back them out :-(.   Then I'll try to isolate
which patch is causing the problem.

1. Sparc 2.3 -> 2.4, broke lpr?

After upgrading my sparc from 2.3 to 2.4, remote hosts can't
seem to be able to access our Jetdirect HPLJ4siMX printer
through my Sparc.  I get the following error:

Your printer job (Microsoft Word - DXFINTT.DOC)
could not be printed.

Reason for failure:

UX:lpd: ERROR: There is no filter to convert the file content.
       TO FIX: Use the lpstat -p -l command to find a
               printer that can handle the file type
                directly, check your filters using lpfilter -f all -l,
               or consult with your system
               administrator.

I can lpr from my sparc just fine.  Any ideas?????
