Newbie needs sendmail help

Post by Leo Gonzales, Jr » Fri, 28 Sep 2001 12:02:30

Hi,

I don't know much about sendmail and I need to configure it for our company.
It seems that I can send messages to some other hosts and not to others. The
message I get back when it fails is shown below.  Can someone tell me how I
can solve this problem?

Note: I'm on Solaris 8.

Sendmail configuration is usually too complicated a procedure to get a
quick and dirty fix for from a newsgroup.  Buy the Oreily Sendmail Book or
hire a consultant to setup sendmail for you.

Dude, are you filling in, or are you going to be the permanent
mail administrator? If it's the latter, and you don't have a
specific requirement to run sendmail, you might consider a
different (and more reasonable) MTA. Personally, I am in
precess of tossing sendmail out the window in favor of
postfix. It's free, and the configuration file is flat text.
It's also quite secure.

Just a thought. No sense in getting stuck with sendmail if you
can avoid it. =)

Cheers,

-J

i second the use of postfix.  actually, i was going to reply to his
original post "run postfix" but i didn't want to be a smart ass :)

unless you are going to be doing some seriously whacked out stuff with
your server, there isn't much of anything simpler than a vanilla postfix
install.

: As long as you never refer to yourselves as real Unix admins. ;-)

as that would shift the balance in my work-related responsibilities, you
will never find me claiming this title!

then again, the "unix admin" on our team asked me just today what editor i
used, and insisted that i help him install it when i told him ( pico,
which can be downloaded as a binary for god's sake )

To achive this and to circumvent sendmail when you are still need
to do some "seriously whacked out stuff", you could also use qmail
(http://www.qmail.org). I don't actually use it, but heard good
things about it.

makemap.c
In file included from /usr/include/sys/t_lock.h:20,
                 from /usr/include/sys/file.h:17,
