Solaris 2.4 & SunSoft CDE Snapshot

Solaris 2.4 & SunSoft CDE Snapshot

Post by Ali Mortaza » Wed, 14 Sep 1994 16:01:40

Alright, so I've got a Sparc 5 with Solaris 2.4 loaded on it (no
patches on yet, but seeing the flood of them on sunsolve, I may pick up a few)
and I get the urge to install CDE on it, mostly because I genuinely like the
new desktop. The installation goes okay, but I now get core dumps whenever I
either (a) access the help system, or (b) try to run the CDE calendar manager.
The problem seems to be related to Motif, as I get warning messages related to
DisplayHorzScrollBar repeatedly before the core dump, e.g.:

        Warning:
            Name: DisplayHorzScrollBar
            Class: XmScrollBar
The scrollbar page increment is less than 1.

I finally get a dreaded

        Arithmetic Exception(coredump)

(this is probably a division by zero)

I haven't talked to Sun yet, but has anybody else run into this ?

        Ali

1. SunSoft Solaris 2.4 and top-3.3beta w gcc

When trying to build top-3.3beta with gcc-2.6.1 on Sunsoft Solaris 2.4
i have problems compiling getopt.c:
    getopt.c: In function 'getopt':
getopt.c:32: argument 'argv' doesn't match prototype
    /pgm/pub/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.4/2.6.1/include/stdio.h:288: \
    prototype declaration
getopt.c:32: argument 'opts' doesn't match prototype
    /pgm/pub/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.4/2.6.1/include/stdio.h:288: \
    prototype declaration
    make: *** [getopt.o] Error 1

Any ideas ?
