Where is GCC 2.3.3 source or binary for Solaris 2.1?

Where is GCC 2.3.3 source or binary for Solaris 2.1?

Post by Dae K » Tue, 27 Jul 1993 06:31:35

Hi, netters:

I am trying to build MIT X11R5 on a SPARC LX running Solaris 2.1.
I have applied mit patch levels 1 through 22, and Solaris patch.
The README file in the Solaris patch for X11R5 tells me that
I need GCC-2.3.3 and it says it is available on prep.ai.mit.edu
in both the source and bynary forms. But I could not find either
of them anywhere on that machine or any other ftp sites.

What happen to the files? Can I build GCC-2.3.3 from GCC-2.4.5
by applying gcc-*.diff files in reverse order? If so, how?

Thanks.

Take a look in: pub/gnu/sparc-sun-solaris2/

Note: this is 2.4.5, which should be able to build anything that 2.3.3
      was able to.

I think it says ``at least gcc 2.3.3'' (I.e., gcc 2.3.3 or later).

No, you cannot, but you don't have to. (The directory structure was
reorganised between 2.3.3 and 2.4.0)

Use 2.4.5.

You need to look a little bit harder. The files are on prep.ai.mit.edu
in /pub/gnu. Since the version number has increased from 2.3.3, you
should look for gcc* in this directory and get the files you need.  The
cleanest way is to get the complete version in gcc-2.4.5.tar.gz.

The binaries for gcc for Solaris 2.1 are located in a subdirectory of
/pub/gnu called, not very surprisingly, sparc-sun-solaris2. This is
not always up to date, i.e., the source version last time I looked
was 2.4.5 but the binary version was 2.4.4 - not a major big deal.
