>Every now and then a Sun engineer or salesperson will post an informative
>factual user friendly tidbit to one of the comp.sys.sun newsgroups...
This is not true, I've never had a thug coming after me and suppress my
posts. I'm trying to be extra careful since I started working for Sun;
I can no longer indulge in speculation on future hardware/software
products, nor do I feel that it is appropriate for me to get too
involved in vendor bashing; I do get occasional complaints when Sun
users tell SunService that "but that isn't what Casper said, Casper
said .." or "Casper said there's a problem X/to use patch foo, but you
deny it". Whatever disclaimer I put on my posts, it still has "Sun.COM"
all over it.
You should take care when you quote statements of company individuals
back to other parts of that same company. These individuals are trying
to help you, often outside work hours. Qouting them back to, e.g.,
the company service organisation may lead to complaints and may restrict
their ability to post.
Before I worked at Sun I heard one such rumor;, which seemed to be dating
back at SUn's early years. I've found no proof of it yet.
(But perhaps they haven't noticed that I work for Sun yet :-)
Quote:>And then you never see another post from that individual again!
>I suspect that Scoot McBreezy sends a bunch of thugs to that individual,

>post with all of their fingers broken...
>If that isn't Sun's policy, why does it seem so?
If you look careful through posting in comp.unix.solaris, you'll
find many regular posters from *.Sun.COM, further proof against such
"gang of thugs". We just don't seem to have a very big usenet
culture here at Sun. There are a lot of lurkers, and they do
notice complaints about Sun bugs but they may chose not to follow
up.
