Solaris x86; Need help trying to mount DOS SCSI disk/partition

Post by Harry P. Ha » Sat, 18 Feb 1995 01:12:08

After installing Solaris x86 on one SCSI disk, I connected a 2nd,
DOS SCSI disk and mounted it using: mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c0t4d0p0 /dos
It worked fine.  Since then I have rebooted several times, and now it
will not mount!  I get the response:

pcfs: disk not in DOS format!
mount: Invalid argument

Format reports:
VAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
       0. c0t0d0 <DEFAULT cyl 1852 alt 2 hd 15 sec 74>

       1. c0t4d0 <MAXTOR-XT-8760S-B6B cyl 1613 alt 2 hd 15 sec 54>

       2. c1d0 <DEFAULT cyl 362 alt 2 hd 8 sec 39>

Specify disk (enter its number): 1
selecting c0t4d0
[disk formatted]
Disk not labeled.  Label it now? no

format> part
Please run fdisk first.

And fdisk /dev/rdsk/c0t4d0p0 reports:

Total disk size is 1615 cylinders
Cylinder size is 810 (512 byte) blocks
                                           Cylinders
Partition   Status    Type      Start   End   Length    %
      =========   ======    ========  =====   ===   ======   ===
          1                 DOS-BIG       0  1615    1616    100

This is strange!

Any help will be appreciated.

It should be /dev/dsk/c0t4d0p0:c

I'd like to add a line to /etc/vfstab so that my c: drive is mounted at
boot time.  Unfortunately, my first stab at this was a failure.  Any
hints on that, anyone?

1. Solaris 2.4/x86 - problem w/ mounting a dos partition - HELP

Hi, Could one of the residing Usenet Gods please help me out w/ my
problem?

Solaris 2.4/x86
486DX2/66 w/20 megs ram
Promise EIDE Controller
Master = 1.2 Gig Conner EIDE
1 Meg Partition for OS/2 Boot Manager
8xx Partition formated FAT w/ PC DOS 7.0 Installed  - Active
4xx Partition formated FAT w/ Currently Empty
Slave  = 340 meg Conner IDE
         340 Partition formated Type 82 (ufs) w/ Solaris 2.4/x86 - Active

Both OS's boot fine from the boot manager, and I can mount pcfs/dos
floppies in solaris, *but* I can not mount my dos partition's in Solaris.
Upon execution of 'fdisk /dev/rdsk/c0d0p0' it states that under this
device that partition 2 is my dos partion which it says the type is
'DOS-BIG', So I attempted to 'mount -Fpcfs /dev/dsk/c0d0p1 /dos' and
it spit out the error that it was not a pcfs and a second line saying
error. Is there something really obviously that I am missing ? Please
Help, It would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.. e-mail or
msg here.....
