Hyperterminal to UNIX machine

Post by mhears » Tue, 08 Apr 2003 08:30:20

Greetings,

I'm having a problem using hyperterminal to login to a HP-UX server.  When
connecting, the login process hangs for about 6 minutes after displaying
login message.  This happens with every account on the HP machine.  Only
generic login scripts are being used.  For reasons beyond my control,
hyperterminal is the only way to connect to the HP-UX machine.  The
hyperterminal settings appear to be correct.  This is an isolated problem,
as many other identical machines work fine with hyperterminal.  Any advise?
I've tried HUPing the getty and inetd processes.  Thanks.

why don't you ask in an hpux newsgroup? e.g.

    comp.sys.hp.hpux

This one is for Solaris issues.

Probably a DNS problem with (reverse) name resolution
to/from the Windows boxes.

Perhaps one of the HP groups would be able to help you better than
the comp.unix.solaris group?

Are you connecting with a serial port or Ethernet. HPUX.... sounds like
DNS problems. You should put a packet sniffer on it and examin the error
logs...Which version are you running 10 or 11 ?

You might think about checking out vnc.

This person has already posted to the comp.sys.hp.hpux newsgroup.

Going over Ethernet.  Hyperterminal is being used as a telnet client.  Can
you recommend a packet sniffer?

ethereal is pretty sweet for a PC

http://www.ethereal.com/

and not bad for Solaris either.
