v2.5.1 x86 Problem

v2.5.1 x86 Problem

Post by CJS » Tue, 05 May 1998 04:00:00

I just installed v2.5.1 and love it, except for one thing - it doesn't
recognize my mouse.  I'm using a Logitech Trackman via a PS2 port.  The
Trackman wasn't listed when I was given choices for a mouse during the
install so I chose the Logitech MouseMan.  I've installed Update 11, but no
luck.  What can I do?

Thanks, Clif

kdmconfig -u

kdmconfig -cf

Select a generic PS/2 mouse, 3 button.....  That should resolve
your problems.

v2.5.1 x86 Problem

Post by CJS » Wed, 06 May 1998 04:00:00

THANKS for your help!  It worked great, but then I screwed up my video...
Now when I boot, when it tries to start cde, it "disconnects" from the
monitor.  How can I stop cde from starting or perform an <init 1> etc.

Thanks again for your help, it is greatly appreciated!

Reboot the machine --- when you get the secondary boot prompt,
type in "b -s" -- that'll boot you into single user mode ...

You can run kdmconfig -u ; then kdmconfig -cf and reconfigure
your mouse and video once again :-D

Run:

kdmconfig -u
kdmconfig -c

Choose "PS/2 mouse", or similar.

1. solaris x86 v2.5 vs. v2.5.1 performance

A 486-DX2 66 is rather underpowered for Solaris, and also
you will probably do much better with SCSI disks.
(Both points from personal experience.)

Linux boots very quickly - no SVR4 comes even close.
On the other hand, I don't find myself booting Solaris very
much - our UPS powered system runs for months, and I have
even added new disks and tape drives and brought them into
service without having to reboot.
