What's differnce between V8, V8+ and V9

Post by jun_.. » Tue, 31 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I am new at Unix field, so if this question is too trivial, please take
patience... :-)
By using "file" command I found some of binaries I built are
"SPARC32PLUS V8+" while the others are "SPARC32 V8" only. What's the
difference between the two? Also I find V8+ format executable can not
be recoginzed by Solaris 2.6, in other words, it's not runnable.
Any one can help to explain that ?

The V8 binary can run on any sparc system, the V8+ has been compiled to
use UltraSparc specific ops (like VIS) and therefore can only run on a
UltraSparc.  (V9 is also UltraSparc only, and will only run on a 64-bit
Solaris 7 or later kernel on an Ultra.)

To be more precise, V8+ is just "SPARC v9 instructions", not VIS (i.e.,
64 bit SPARC, not UltraSPARC specific)
v8plusa includes vis 1.0

1. sendmail.cf (v8.6.12 and/or v8.6/SMI): serving multiple domains?

Any hints for how to act as a (perhaps alternate) mailserver for
multiple domains, not only accepting mail from multiple domains
for redistribution, but preserving their domainname when forwarding
the mail to its destination rather than rewriting the originator's
address to my domain?  I know the limited_masquerade capability of
8.8.5 supports this, but 8.8.5 isn't currently an option.  I figure
there has to be a way to do in in one of the 8.6 flavors mentioned
in the subject line, even if it would be a little ugly.
