Bug? (1.9.15p8 Sun IPX/Sun-OS 4.3/Solaris 1.1)

Post by Rene van Di » Mon, 12 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

After a succesfull testdrive on a Sparc 20 running Solaris 2.3, we
have tried to install Samba to our main server (Sun IPX/Sun-OS 4.3/
Solaris 1.1)  (I can't upgrade this server because some tools will not
work under otherr Solaris versions)

After initialisation the server reports the following message;

02/06/96 15:31:39 netbios nameserver version 1.9.15p8 started

INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 16786 (1.9.15p8)
Please read the file BUGS.txt in the Distribution
===============================================================
Dumping core in /usr/local/samba/var/corefiles

Does ne1 know a solution for it?

Note: The Sparc 20 is still running the smbd & nmbd could this be a
reason for the conflict?

1. Samba 1.9.15p8 troubles

Hello all,

I have installed samba 1.9.15p8 (from Celestial - thanks Bill :-) on my
SCO OSR5 system. After spending a day or so trying different
configuration parameters, I have it more-or-less working the way I want.
However, I have a few problems which I haven't been able to work out.
For example, I can find the address of Windows hosts with nmblookup, but
when I try to connect to them with smbclient, I can connect to some hosts
everytime, but others it always says that it cannot find an address for the
host. So far, it appears that I can connect to the Win95 boxes, but not
to the WfW 3.11 boxes. I have not done extensive testing, so this may be a
coincidence. Also, the Windows boxes can sometimes see my SCO system, but
not always. Sometimes a WfW 3.11 box will see it, but a Win95  box won't.
Sometimes its the other way around. Sometimes they can both see it.

I recall a few weeks ago that someone here said that you had to remove
some component from the kernel for Samba to work properly (perhaps
something that normally sits at port 137 or 139?). At that time I wasn't
interested in samba, so I didn't save the message.

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA
Jim
