Solaris 2.4 --> Solaris 2.5: strict POSIX compliance inquiry

Post by Jim Mrowc » Sat, 10 Feb 1996 04:00:00

All:
I'm trying to find out, whether in 1 FAQ or another, if there exists a
list of all non-POSIX compliant Unix commands within Solaris 2.4 that
are not supported in Unix commands within Solaris 2.5 ? One person over

compliance...I want to get the full blown list.

BTW, is there a comprehensive page/URL out there on POSIX itself?

thanks,
Jim Mrowca

not due to anything Sun did.  If your site chose not to install non-POSIX
compliant packages (lpr, for example, is included in the BSD compatibility
package and may be found in /usr/ucb), that's a different story.  But no
utilities were removed in Solaris 2.5 for POSIX compliance or any other
reason.

In fact, a whole new bin directory, /usr/xpg4/bin, has been added to support
XPG4.2 compliance for those who need it without changing the behavior of the
system for those who don't.

You have been mis-informed.  The lpr program is available as
/usr/ucb/lpr just as it is in 2.4.  I don't know of any programs
that have "gone away" due to POSIX non-compliance.  There is now
a /usr/xpg4/bin directory for compliant versions.

You have been misinformed - Solaris 2.5 has an "lpr" command just like
earlier versions of Solaris 2.X. I'm not aware of any Solaris utilites
which were dropped between 2.4 and 2.5 for reasons of "POSIX
compliance".

[If you're colleague is still stuck looking for lpr they should find it
in /usr/ucb]
