Solaris x86 support NEC CDR 84-1 CD-ROM Scsi ?

Post by Herbert Tobi » Tue, 18 May 1993 23:41:20

Does Solaris x86 2.1 will be installable with a NEC 84-1 SCSI CD-ROM
device, connected to an standard ADAPTEC controller. Is it right, that
the Bulogic Controller is not actual supported under x86 ?

Thanks for all help !

The Hardware Compatibility Guide for Solaris 2.1 for x86 lists NEC
Intersect CDR-84 (and also CDR-74).  Is that the same thing?

The Adaptec controllers listed are the 1540B and C, 1542B and C, 1640,
1642, 1740A, and 1742A.

The following BusLogic Controllers are supported in 1540 mode: BT-542B,
BT-545S, BT-742A, and BT-747S.

Note that this is for the release just going out.  The OEM release does
not explicitly claim support for NEC CDR-84 or BusLogic adapters.

1. NEC SCSI CDR-84 CD-ROM not recognized

My Linux system doesn't recognize my NEC CDR-84 SCSI CD-ROM drive. At boot,
I see my Adaptec 1542 accessing the drive (LED flashing), also when
Linux tests for SCSI devices, the drive is accessed but not recognized.

I tried to remove/add terminators to every SCSI device - no avail (all
other devices work perfectly). Anybody else who had this problem?
Or somebody, who uses the drive successfully?

Slackware 0.99.13, 386/33/8, Fujitsu SCSI harddisk, NEC CD-ROM, HP DAT tape.

Thanks,
Axel
