Boot Error Message

Post by Jan M. Stankovsk » Tue, 18 Feb 1997 04:00:00

These messages appear the first time i tried to boot from the install
server. After 20 times or so the maschine booted and I installed Solaris
2.5.1.
After the installation was finished the booting (short after the
copyrightmessage; before the configuration of the /dev /devices..)
from the harddisk is aborted with these messages:

Stack Underflow
Bad Trap: type=9 ......
: Data Fault
Kernel read fault at addr=0xc ....
MMu sfsr=326: Invalid adress pn supv data fetch at level 3

This is an Axil 245 Rom 2.15 . Has anybody any hint ?

Thanks

You may have a corrupt device driver.  Boot single user from CD-ROM,
fsck your file systems, and then do checksums on your device drivers and
compare to good ones on CD-ROM.  Or, you may be able to save yourself a
lot of trouble and just reload the OS from the CD-ROM.

If problem persists, then I would run extended POST.  (Assuming your
Axil clone has such a beast.)  You may have an intermittent fault in a
memory chip or the CPU.

Good luck.

This is a message from the OpenBoot Prom FORTH interpreter by
the looks of it.  It may be a bad prom_interpret() call from
the kernel?

Check that the CD image you installed from is the OEM h/w release
as that version of the CD has the OEM's platform specific additions
to it.

Cheers,
Jim.

I have had the same problem with an Axil.  I gad to finally return the
whole box to the manufacturer and get a new one as the replacement.

1. 1.3.98 Boot Error Messages - syslog.txt (0/1)

I am running Slackware v3.0 on my 486DX4-120/16MB RAM with kernel
1.2.13.  The OS is stable and the only error messages currently being
generated are due to me, not the platform.

I compiled kernel 1.3.98 with defaults in the make config file with
the exception of the sound card and electing to include parallel
printer support.

I am attaching a copy of the syslog which shows a number of broked
flock() emulation messages.  I don't have the faintest idea what they
mean.  Is this serious?  And even more important what can I do to
correct it?

The OS boots all right with the 1.3.98 kernel and seems to work OK

Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

TIA
