the Companion CD) without problems, I am now unable to

I didn`t enounter any problems on a Blade1000, but you may
try to use the gui_free version in order to succeed.

        ./installer -nodisplay

The exception occurs one class after the readUTF class.

Maybe something is wrong with the locale settings?

During the S10 installation process we chose only
the following settings.

de_DE
de_DE.ISO8859-1
en_US
en_US.ISO8859-1

Installation of the UTF8 stuff is not recommended.
This is the information we got in a
S10 Workshop.

The LANG variable is also set to de_DE.

Maybe this is the reason, why the readUTF method
call throws an exception?

Is there any reason that you *MUST*  use the interactive installer ?
its all Pkgadd packages down in

   /cdrom/s10_software_companion/components/sparc/Packages

Well, installing the CCD from the global OS installer did not
work and ./installer does not work, this does not look nice.

I could install it from the global installer on a SunBlade 1500.
maybe it has problems without  graphic (X) screen.

I just saw on sunsolve that there is a J2SE patch for
solaris 10 accessible via the patchfinder. I guess
there is a bug in the jave delivered with Solaris 10...

According to the README it only contains 113886-27 and 113887-27,
which are for OpenGL 1.3 which is included in Solaris 10. But these
very patches have been pre-applied to Solaris 10 GA, so installing
them is unnecessary.

1. Difference between Sparc 2, Sparc 10 and Ultra Sparc 10

I have a sparc 2 (40mhz...Weitek upgrade to 80 in some cases.. SBUS proprietary
slots)
Sparc 10 has proprietary SBUS slots but can take  2 processesors of  various
grades of
CPU(they must be identical) . Both of these designs are roughly 7+ years old.
Both
run SOLARIS  2.6 Both have I believe SCSI 2.  The ultrasparc is a single 300+
mhz (various grades) with standard PCI slots and maybe IDE drives...
