1. gdb: core dump stack trace

Please excuse if this is an issue already resolved...

After spending hours resolving unresolved refs after patching gdb
4.14e and experiencing endorphin rush when it accepted my ELF core, I
notice there is no stack trace! It reports the SEG violation in
strcmp(), but I have no reference where it was called from. Is there
anything I can do to get this info? (I am new to Linux after years of
indentured servitude to SCO).
