TCP/IP over fibrechannel

TCP/IP over fibrechannel

Post by CJ Herm » Wed, 18 Oct 1995 04:00:00

I'd like to setup a point to point TCP/IP link between two SparcCenter
2000's, and would like to have as much bandwidth as reasonably
possible.  I've heard rumors of being able to run TCP/IP over
fibrechannel, and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with
doing this.  I'm also considering ATM or CDDI for this application,
but I'd like to consider all of my options.  Any suggestions or
pointers would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I'm not sure if the FC card used by Sun for their SPARCStorage Array
supports networking, but I think that Ancor provides a card which does
support it.

It is certainly possible to run TCP/IP over FibreChannel - both HP and
IBM have been doing it for a while now, and I think that Ancor has Sun
and SGI covered.

You could also consider running a HIPPI channel at up to 400MB/s over
fiber with a fiber HIPPI extender. For info check out:
