Need graphical PPP dialer for internet access

Post by J?rn Haferstro » Sun, 22 Jun 2003 05:30:28

Hi all,

I am a newbie and just installed Solaris 9/Intel on my PC.

I found a good documentation from Mike Mann how to get into the internet
together with a GUI dialer, but unfortunately its for Solaris 7 and the
asppp daemon mentioned there is not available for Solaris 9. I have pppd
installed and need an easy-to-use dialer, which I can launch from CDE. What
is the best tool for this and where can I get it?

Regards
Joern

Unfortunately, we just don't have one.

One decent dialing program that's worth investigation (though it might
not need all of your needs) is Seyon:

What ever happened to Solstice PPP?  It had a gui, was easy
to set up, and worked fine (at least for me with a Solaris 8
notebook with a PCMCIA modem).  Much easier to deal with than
asppp!  In the old days you had to buy it but later it was
free.

It's here:

        http://wwws.sun.com/software/ppp/

Solstice PPP isn't related to 'asppp' or to the new Solaris PPP 4.0
that replaces 'asppp'.  While Solstice PPP 3.0.1 does include the
graphical interface, it doesn't include IPv6, CCP data compression,
PPPoE, MS compatibility features (MS-CHAPv1 and MS-CHAPv2, MS
callback, MS DNS options, ACCM bug workarounds), FCS negotiation, LCP
Identification, or plugin interface.

1. ANNOUNCE: A graphical internet dialer for Solaris 7

Those people who have used the method for configuring PPP dialup to an
ISP on Solaris 7 described in

    http://www.kempston.net/solaris/connect.html

may be interested in an excellent graphical front end for the dialup

released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.  A
screenshot with detailed installation and configuration instructions
and the script itself is available from:

    http://www.kempston.net/solaris/dialer.html

Regards, Mike.
