jumpstart and flash_install

Post by Matthias Ern » Wed, 08 Aug 2001 00:15:13

Hi everybody,

short summary:
==============
I tried to convert a jumpstart server to use the flash installation
feature. When I install a client with the new flash installation
feature it works well until the end of the flash archive is reached.
Then I get the follwoing error messages:

ERROR: Could not stop the extraction
ERROR: Could not extract Flash archive
ERROR: System installation failed

At this point the whole installation stops. Does anybody know what
these erromessages mean? I checked the SunSolve database and I could not
find anything there.

Here are the details:
=====================
We use a jumpstart server to install and configure workstations.
This works well under Solaris 8 4/01. I just tried to convert the
jumpstart server to use the flash installation feature and I could
not get this to work. On a fully configured workstation I did a

flarcreate -n client_image -x /var/tmp/flash /var/tmp/flash/image.mu4

The server is running Solaris 8 04/01 as is the client I used to
create the image. I did install the latest suninstall patch (109318-19)
on the server and on the miniroot.

The rules files looks like this:

hostname joblot         -       install.flashstart      finish.flashstart

and  the install.flashstart looks like this:

nstall_type     flash_install
archive_location nfs goudsmit:/export/install/flashimage/nmr_client.mu4
partitioning    explicit
filesys         rootdisk.s0 250  /
filesys         rootdisk.s1 2048 swap
filesys         rootdisk.s2 all overlap
filesys         rootdisk.s6 2048 /usr
filesys         rootdisk.s7 free /var
filesys         goudsmit:/usr/share/man         - /usr/share/man                ro
filesys         goudsmit:/usr/dt/share/man      - /usr/dt/share/man             ro
filesys         goudsmit:/usr/openwin/share/man - /usr/openwin/share/man        ro
filesys         goudsmit:/opt                   - /opt
filesys         goudsmit:/nmrnet                - /nmrnet
filesys         goudsmit:/home                  - /home
filesys         goudsmit:/home1                 - /home1

filesys         goudsmit:/var/mail              - /var/mail                     actimeo=0
filesys         floquet:/scratch                - /scratch

When I install aclient from the server I get the following:
ok boot net - install

At this point the installation stops. If I boot the machine it seems to
be fully installed and only the modifications done in the finish.flashstart
are missing (ssh keys and other host specific stuff). What do these
error messages mean? And what is wrong with my flash_install configuration.

Any hints are appreciated.

Regards

Matthias Ernst
