The ufsboot program included in the DU-4EA and DU-3 releases has a bug
which causes it to mishandle some IDE drives. It corrupts the geometry
reported by the BIOS and doesn't recognize cylinder numbers greater
than 64. This ends up putting the wrong CHS information in the FDISK
partition table. Usually this means a portion of the drive is unusable
but it could also mean that after installation your system isn't
bootable by some BIOSes. But there are some combinations of BIOSes and
drives setups that do work so not every customer will run into this
bug. It's bug number 1263378:
1263378 ufsboot: incorrectly masking no. of heads from BIOS
This bug is being fixed immediately and will be included in the final
DU-4 release. The DU-4 release is almost complete but it's too early to
announce a specific posting date (i.e., it's not going to be done this
week). As a workaround try installing with the DU-2 release. If DU-2
is missing a driver or bug fix your system requires then you
unfortunately may have to install with DU-4EA (or DU-3) and then
reinstall with the final DU-4 release (or just wait for the final DU-4
release).
