Post by Valery Brasse » Fri, 07 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I have tried to use the X11 server demo of Win 3.1 : xwindemo
from StartNet Micro. When  i connect to my linux box trying to
get an X11 serveur  i get a message :
- DLL wrong version in the log
or sometime I can't connect because of tcpwrap ...
Did someone try this ?
Thanks

You know, this really doesn't sound like a problem on the Linux end...
Well, no I haven't tried it 8-).  I recommend xappeal.. it is in DOS, it's
quite fast and good 8-).

: Thanks

I agree on both counts.. not Linux's problem, and xappeal is good.
I got xwindemo, it's pretty bad 8-).  Dithering is bad-looking (it
claims all 256 colors are available.. due to the ones reserved bin Windoze,
it has to dither..), borders are really fat for some reason, which does
pretty bad things to the layout when they are like twice as fat as they are
supposed to be, it has the inverted cursor bug (I had to use
-invertedcursorbug with executor...), it was pretty slow compared to xappeal,
there were other bugs like things that locally use shared memory extension
generally appeared with colors inversed, a few programs simply wouldn't
display..

: : Thanks

1. Network between Win 3.11/Win 95 machine and Linux machine

The problem that I have is that I want to use internet stuff, and
other junk from my linux machine, but my modem is on the WIN 3.11 machine.
Currently I am running a network when both computers are w\running
workhgroups and this works well, but due placement of phone lines, I can't
get a connection to the room where the linux machine is. It is the superior
machine as well, so obviously this would be advantagious.
        Put shortly

I want to link my linux computer to my windows 3.11 computer and
running use the internet.  And if possible the printer (HP 540).

Thanks in advance
