Traffic count?

Post by Christian Dinda » Tue, 12 Jun 2001 18:08:21

Hi,

Ive got a slackware server running.
How can I count the Incomming and outgoing traffic?
I need something like a log where I can see the daily&month
traffic. With mrtg Ive nice graphics about netspeed but no traffic
is shown.

Anybody an idea?

Bye
Chriss

have a look at http://www.comlink.apc.org/~moritz/ipac.html

from the readme:

HOW DOES IT WORK?

ipac consists of two scripts (shell and perl) and one C program:

  - ipacset reads a configuration file and sets up ip accounting
for the kernel using ipfwadm or ipchains

  - fetchipac, executed from cron once in a while, reads
the current ip accounting data assembled by the kernel
and writes it to a new file

  - ipacsum summarizes the data from a set of files and, optionally,
replaces these files by one. It displays the values as a simple
table containing the sums, as png graph pictures or as ascii graph
  pictures.

And here is an example:

IP accounting summary
Host: gorki / Time created: 2001/06/11 00:04:22 CEST
Data from 2001/06/01 00:00:00 CEST to 2001/06/11 00:04:22 CEST
  Oliver Internet in                              :              9M
  Oliver Internet out                             :             73M
  Christophe Internet in                          :             31M
  Christophe Internet out                         :            160M
  Internet Total in                               :            237M
  Internet Total out                              :             41M

I think that is what you are looking for :)
