is there a program out there for windows that would allow me to connect
to a linux box and run xwindows??  the 2 boxes are connected via TCP/IP

Not only can you run Linux X from Windows, but you can also control a Win
box from Linux, or do either from any Java capable web browser.

I have seen many screenshots on the Window Manager themes sites that
appear to have a console window with log messages in it, but there is no
frame, scroll bars, or title bars around the console window.  It appears
to be built into the root window.
