Can anyone help me set up the internet on a Compaq Presario 4122 useing a
generic compaq 33.6 modem and connecting to a standard ISP?  Any advice will
be greatly appreciated seeing as how I have been trying for several weeks and
no one seems to be able to help me, I have written the scripts and I have it
set for the correct port (com2), but it seems like it never recognizes my
modem or anything PLEASE HELP! or I may never know the full power of Linux!

You should post a new message with more details. What do you mean by "standard
ISP"? What exactly are you doing? What execly goes wrong? What errors messages
do you get both on screen and in log files?

Try reading PPP-HOWTO and Serial-HOWTO (it's the only advice you get get with
the information you provided).
