PCMCIA woes: Xircom card

PCMCIA woes: Xircom card

Post by paul bear » Tue, 07 Jan 1997 04:00:00

New to Linux and am trying to setup networking on a Toshiba 420CDT. All
seems fine with the Redhat 4.0 distribution, except for PCMCIA support.
The supp.img diskette is requested and inserted, but doesn't seem to do
much for me.

I have the latest PCMCIA archive from Dave Hinds, but am not sure how to
get it to the machine since I can't network it.

/var/run/stab:
Socket 0: 0     serial  serial_cs       0       ttyS1   4       65
Socket 1: empty

I get the requisite beeps when I remove or insert the card. I get a
"probe failed" error, excluding some hex addresses and another excluding
nothing.

I guess I need to source?

If you unpack the archive and read the supported-cards document, you'll see
that Xircom only recently decided to allow freeware driver development. By
that time they may have missed the bus, so to speak; no Xircom drivers are
known.  I have the same sad problem, and am hoping some Windozer at work
will take my Xircom card instead of buying a new one.  I'm looking at the
3Com EtherLink III, which seems to be the only other ethernet-modem combo
card at present that supports 10Base-2 as well as 10Base-T (I have the
former at home and the latter at work).

1. help on Xircom CE-II Plus PCMCIA card

hi all,

I had a Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop, with Xircom CreditCard Ethernet

the HOWTO steps tring to install the PCMCIA card.  for some reason I
couldn't make it work.  even the cardmgr won't start when reboot.

can anyone give me some suggestions?  thanks in advance.
