pptp client won't connect over cable modem connection

Post by Terry Polz » Sat, 14 Dec 2002 23:53:56

I'm trying to connect to my office's pptp-server from a RedHat 8.0
machine.
I've installed the pptp-client packages just as the readmes and other
documentation  say to but I can't get the tunnel up.

My internet connection is via my cable provider, and I get a DHCP
address from them so my default route is to the outside ethernet port
on the machine.  No authentication as they bind to MAC addresses when
they give you an address.

I can't find anything in the logs that helps.  The pptp-server logs
never show that I tried to connect.

Do I need some kind of a pusedo PPP connection to get the pptp tunnel
to connect?

Try changing the 'debug' option in you /etc/ppp/options file.

1. why i still can't use pptp client to connect to windows 2000 pptp server

Dear all, i have installed pptp client on linux and ppp-2.3.11
                               (1.0.2)

. When i connect to windows 2000 pptp server, it shows message like

   +chapms-v2 mppe-128 mppe-stateless -deflate noauth
(unknown)[714]: log[pptp_dispatch_ctrl_packet:pptp_ctrl.c:531]: Client
  connection established.
(unknown)[714]: log[pptp_dispatch_ctrl_packet:pptp_ctrl.c:637]: Outgoing
 call established.

The log message on the windows 2000 show that the authentication can't
complete in time, so it disconnect user.

    what can't i do now?

    Thanks!!
