Using Sygate?

Using Sygate?

Post by Greg Akin » Tue, 29 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Is anybody using Sygate to connect a Linux box to the internet,
via WinNT/Sygate?

With the preceeding setup, I can ping internet address & names
from my WinNT box, I can ping internet addresses from my Linux
box, but can't resolve names...

Everything works normally for my LAN, it's just the linux ->
winnt -> internet that doesn't work.

It seems like the problem must be with my Nameserver
designation, but I've got the Linux client setup just like
Sygate docs say and it still doesn't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using Sygate?

Hi,

I used to have sygate on a Win95 box with 2 win98 clients & a linux client.
Like you I had the same trouble.  To fix it make sure that the DNS info of
your ISP is on your linux box and not that of the NT/SYgate Machine.  This
should allow your linux box to resolve names.

hope this helps.

P.S. I eventually made my linux box into firewall/proxy server (much more
safer & better...:-)

Using Sygate?

I once had Redhat working.  I told it to use my Win98 box.  Now I can't
figure out how to do it on Suse 6.3.  There MUST be a way.

Thanks,

Could somebody post an example of a valid resolve.conf file.  I
think I might be misunderstanding the layout...

nameserver 205.189.152.1
nameserver 205.189.151.1

PS.  you dont need to have the first line.

1. Newb shares cable using Sygate wants to use Linux

I currently have no issues sharing my cable modem between two Win98
machines using single nics, a five port hub, and Sygate sharing software.
Syagate has no answer for this....

I am dual-booting Mandrake 9 on the second box and everything is fine,
except I can't get on the net. I have tried a few different ways of
setting up the ethernet card to no avail.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
