dip says 'Host name lookup failure' ???

Post by Shinya Yarimi » Tue, 09 May 1995 04:00:00

Hi.  I'm trying to get a SLIP connection w/ dip, but dip is basically
refusing to even run.  I cannot even go 'dip -t'.  It says something like:

lennon.frop.org: Host name lookup failure

Any input will be appreciated.  TIA.

Most probable cause is this...  there is no entry in your /etc/hosts
for lennon.frop.org .  If you are going to use dynamic slip ( your IP
address gets changed every time you connect) the best thing to do is use
a script that updates your /etc/hosts file every time you connect.

Hope this helps...

1. DIP 'Host name lookup failure'.

I have just recently trying DIP on my Linuxbox. Suddenly I get this
frustrating message when I try to fire up DIP. 'Host name lookup
failure'. I have checked /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/host.conf
about 4hundred times and I can't see anything wrong in them. Can anyone
give me a hint?
