I"m having trouble with installing an IBM Token Ring Creditcard Adapter with
RedHat 6.0.

My computer is a Compaq Presario 1260.

When I insert the adapter it is recognized, but it doesn't connect to the
network.

CARDCTL IDENT gives :
Product info ?BM","TOKEN RING","092F7193","B3ENIPSKJRT"
manfid 0x00a4, 0x001e
function : 6(network)

CARDCTL STATUS gives :
5V 16-bit card present
Function 0:ready

CARDCTL CONFIG gives:
Socket 0:
VCC = 5.0, Vpp1=0.0, Vpp2=0.0
Interface Type is memory and I/O
IRQ 3 is exclusive, level mode, enabled
Function 0:
    Config register bse = 0x0800
    Option = 0x061
    I/O Window 1 : 0x0a20 to 0x0a23, 8 bit

ps-x  gives:
......
    694    ?    0:00    sh -c ./network start tr0 2>&1
    695    ?    0:00    sh ./network start tr0
    696    ?    0:00    /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup ifcfg tr0
    718    ?    0:00    ifconfig tr0 192.168.61.2 netmask 255.255.0.0
broadcast

This can take all day. I can't shutdown my computer by 'reboot' or
'shutdown' .

Can anyone help me with this???

Poul,

RH 6.0 doesn't work with the pcmcia token ring card out of the box, you
need to get the latest version of the pcmcia package. I re-wrote the
driver to work with kernel 2.2.x > a while back.

For more details see: http://www.linuxtr.net/pcmcia.html

I would advice either going to a more recent kernel, or back to 1.2.x,
and applying the TR patch.  As far as I can tell, the built-in TR support
in 1.3 was broken early on, and not fixed until very recently.

I had no end of problems - normally showing as booting and init'ing the
TR card ok, could ping ok, but any more then that (such as telnet or ftp,
either into or out of the Linux machine) gave a kernel panic.

Compiled up 1.3.72 the other day and it's been running perfectly ever
since.  I'm using a Madge Straight Blue right now but have also used
some older IBM 4/16 cards.
