Guys,
Could do with some help here. Despite having got NFS mounts working on
previous distributions, I'm having problems for some reason with RedHat
5.2 and RedHat 6.0 -- I keep getting "RPC: Program not registered".
I've had a good look through the FAQs and found this (paraphrased)
section:
Is the portmapper running? If not, start it.
Is mountd running? If not, start it.
Is nfsd running? If not start it.
Is the portmapper forbidden to answer by /etc/hosts.deny? If so, either
remove the rule in hosts.deny or add a rule to hosts.allow such that the
portmapper is allowed to talk to you.
I've checked this, though, as follows:
On machine#1 (buddha, RH5.2/kernel 2.2.12/mountd:Universal NFS Server
2.2beta37):
root 731 0.0 1.4 1488 688 ? S 21:23 0:00
rpc.mountd
root 740 0.0 1.4 1508 696 ? S 21:23 0:00 rpc.nfsd
bin 681 0.0 0.9 1096 452 ? S 21:17 0:00 portmap
portmap: LOCAL
nfsd: LOCAL
ALL: LOCAL
/home/matt seville(rw)
On machine#2 (seville, RH6.0/kernel 2.2.5/mountd:kmountd 1.4.7 (0.4.22))
1521 pts/9 S 0:00 rpc.statd
2279 ? S 0:00 rpc.rquotad
2290 ? S 0:00 rpc.mountd --no-nfs-version 3
2310 pts/9 SW 0:00 [rpciod]
bin 2214 0.0 0.3 1088 444 ? S 21:25 0:00
portmap
portmap: LOCAL
nfsd: LOCAL
ALL: LOCAL
/home/matt buddha(rw)
/home/matt buddha
but, unfortunately, every time I run either:
mount -t nfs seville:/home/matt /mnt/tmp
from machine#1(buddha) or:
mount -t nfs buddha:/home/matt /mnt/tmp/
from machine#2(seville), I get:
mount: RPC: Program not registered
which I cannot understand. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
